The 2008 Annual Report is a strategic document with a brief description of the different activities implemented in the country in an effort to control TB, Leprosy and Buruli ulcer. It also evaluates the activities of the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme during the course of 2008, outlining the situation of the NTBLCP as well as the achievements and challenges encountered during the phase 1 GFATM Round 5 gap-filling grant for accelerated TB control in the country.

The year 2006 will remain unforgettable in the history of Tuberculosis (TB) and Leprosy control in Nigeria. TB was declared a National emergency in 2006 and it was also the year the country hosted the Stop TB partnership Coordinating Board meeting for the very first time in the history of TB control in Nigeria. The programme also received approval from GFATM board for the GFATM 5th Round TB application to support the TB control efforts in Nigeria with $ 68.2 million for the next five years.

This National Strategic Plan for Tuberculosis Control, 2015 – 2020 is a call to action for all stakeholders in Nigeria – political leaders and government officials at all levels, religious leaders, business leaders, public and private health providers, communities and individuals affected by TB – to mount a massive and coordinated response to the challenges that Nigeria faces in eliminating this life-threatening yet curable illness by aligning our strategy with the three pillars of the global post-2015 strategy.
